After the wild box office and critical success of Straight Outta Compton and the accompanying “grand finale” of his album Compton, Dr. Dre had announced that he was retiring from music. And really, nobody can blame him. Dr. Dre has led an illustrious career, rising from the streets of Compton to becoming an acclaimed producer, rapper, and tech giant. Over his 30 year career, he has mentored some of the greatest names in the industry including Snoop Dogg, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, and recently NC’s own King Mez and Rapsody. With the finalization of his deal to sell Beats by Dr. Dre to Apple he has solidified his position as one of the wealthiest men not only in hip hop, but also the world.
However, in a recent episode of his The Pharmacy Apple Beats 1 Radio show with Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre mention the crazy possibility of wanting to do a European Tour with his some of his well known proteges: Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Kendrick Lamar. Dr. Dre stated that he has never been able to fully give back to his European fan base. Although he has traveled to Europe a couple of times, he laments that it was really only a mic and DJ setup. Dre stressed that he wants to be able to bring his full artistic vision to stages all across Europe. He wants to give this fan base the full experience, before he closes the curtains on his career. He named this vision the Beats & Rhymes tour although Snoop Dogg, in true Snoop fashion, has suggested an alternate name of Hoodstock (a play on Woodstock). A joint tour such as this one would be a dream come true for all hip hop lovers. The only downside is that the tour may not extend past European borders.
